🎉 Celebrating 70 Years of Magic at the Disneyland Resort

Written by Cheyenne Broyles

This summer I had the chance to visit the Disneyland Resort during its incredible 70th anniversary celebration, and let me tell you—it truly felt like the parks had been sprinkled with extra pixie dust. From dazzling entertainment to limited-time treats, décor, and unique experiences, Disney pulled out all the stops to celebrate this milestone in magical style.

As both a travel agent and a lifelong Disney fan, it was such a joy to not only experience the celebration for myself but also to gather tips and favorites to share with my clients. Here’s a look at what stood out most to me, along with a few other highlights you won’t want to miss if you’re planning a trip during this special anniversary year.

The Entertainment: Bigger and Brighter Than Ever

Two shows completely stole the spotlight for me—Paint the Night Parade and World of Color – One: Happiness.

Paint the Night has always been a fan-favorite nighttime parade, and its return for the 70th anniversary feels like the ultimate gift. Seeing Main Street, U.S.A. come alive with thousands of sparkling lights, beloved Disney and Pixar characters, and that upbeat music was absolutely magical. It’s impossible not to smile (and maybe even tear up a little) as the floats pass by.

Over at Disney California Adventure, I caught the special edition of World of Color, titled Happiness, which was created just for the anniversary. With dancing fountains, lasers, projections, and music spanning 70 years of Disney storytelling, it was a breathtaking tribute. I loved that the show not only showcased the classics but also wove in newer favorites—it felt like a celebration of Disney’s legacy and its future all at once.

The Parks All Dressed Up

Everywhere you turn, there are 70th anniversary touches woven into the parks. From banners and bunting on Main Street to golden details throughout both Disneyland and California Adventure, the décor adds an extra layer of charm.

What really impressed me were the ride overlays and special touches on classic attractions. On Toy Story Midway Mania, for example, 70th-themed details and decorations were sprinkled throughout, giving the ride a festive new twist. It felt like discovering hidden surprises that made even familiar attractions feel brand new.

Souvenirs Worth Taking Home

As you might imagine, the merchandise for the 70th is absolutely stunning. The collections include everything from apparel to accessories to limited-edition collectibles, and I was impressed with the variety. Whether you want something subtle like a mug or pin, or a standout piece like a spirit jersey or Loungefly backpack, there’s something for every Disney fan.

The designs lean into the anniversary theme with bold colors, confetti-inspired patterns, and nods to 70 years of magic. Even if you’re not normally a big shopper, it’s worth browsing these limited-time offerings—because once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Special Anniversary Snacks & Treats

Disney always goes above and beyond with food during celebrations, and the 70th is no exception. I made it my mission to try several snacks, and while there were so many delicious options, one treat rose above the rest for me: the Mickey Confetti Waffles from Schmoozies at Disney California Adventure.

These waffles are not only adorable but also delicious—fluffy, colorful, and topped with plenty of celebratory flair. It’s the kind of treat that just makes you smile and feels perfectly themed to the occasion.

Other food offerings around the parks include limited-edition churros, cupcakes, sundaes, and even themed cocktails for adults. I love that Disney doesn’t just stop at decorations and shows—they make sure your tastebuds get in on the celebration, too.

More 70th Anniversary Magic to Discover

While those were my personal highlights, there’s so much more happening across the resort:

  • Castle Illumination Moments: At Sleeping Beauty Castle, a special nighttime lighting ceremony adds an extra dose of sparkle.

  • Photo Ops: Exclusive anniversary photo backdrops and props are scattered throughout both parks—perfect for capturing those core memories.

  • Character Outfits: Beloved Disney characters are donning celebratory costumes, and meeting them feels even more magical when they’re decked out in anniversary gear.

  • Limited-Time Tours & Experiences: Disney has added commemorative elements to guided tours and special dining packages, making this the perfect year to splurge on something extra special.

Final Thoughts

The Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary is everything a Disney fan could hope for—nostalgia, celebration, and plenty of new magic to discover. What I loved most was how immersive the experience felt. Whether I was watching the dazzling Paint the Night Parade, spotting confetti details on attractions, or indulging in a themed treat, it truly felt like the entire resort was celebrating together.

If you’re thinking about visiting Disneyland during this special year, I can’t recommend it enough. Not only will you get to enjoy the parks’ timeless attractions and atmosphere, but you’ll also experience these once-in-a-lifetime offerings that make 2025 such a standout time to visit.

Here’s to 70 years of Disneyland—and to making new memories that will last for years to come!
