The Disney Magic holds a special place in Disney Cruise Line history as the fleet’s very first ship! Debuting in 1998, this beloved vessel combines classic ocean-liner elegance with the Disney storytelling, family-friendly entertainment, and exceptional service guests have come to love. While it may be one of the smaller ships in the fleet, the Disney Magic is full of unforgettable experiences, from Broadway-style shows and imaginative dining to exciting waterslides and magical character encounters. Whether you’re sailing with little ones, traveling with teens, or planning an adults-only getaway, there’s something for everyone aboard the Disney Magic.
Sun, Fun & the AquaDunk
The Disney Magic offers plenty of ways to soak up the sunshine on sea days. Families can cool off at Goofy’s Pool, while younger cruisers will love the splash-filled fun of AquaLab, complete with water features, geysers, and the Twist ’n’ Spout waterslide.
For guests looking for a bigger thrill, the AquaDunk is one of the ship’s signature attractions. This high-speed waterslide sends brave cruisers plunging through a translucent tube that extends over the side of the ship! If you prefer to keep your feet on solid ground, you can enjoy basketball, ping-pong, shuffleboard, or a walk around the Promenade Deck while taking in ocean views.
Casual Dining & Quick Bites
Between adventures, you’ll find plenty of convenient spots to grab a bite. Cabanas offers buffet-style dining with a variety of breakfast and lunch favorites, making it an easy option for families with different tastes.
For something quick, stop by Duck-In Diner for burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, and Middle Eastern-inspired gyros and shawarma. Pinocchio’s Pizzeria serves pizza throughout the day near Goofy’s Pool, while Eye Scream Treats offers complimentary soft-serve ice cream. You can also pick up a refreshing frozen-fruit smoothie at Frozone Treats.
With so many casual options available, it’s easy to fit in a snack between swimming, character meet-and-greets, and all the other fun happening onboard.
Rotational Dining: Three Restaurants, Three Experiences
One of the best parts of a Disney Cruise is rotational dining, and the Disney Magic has three distinctive restaurants that bring dinner to life. Your dining rotation takes you through each restaurant, and your serving team moves with you so they can get to know your family and your preferences.
Lumiere’s: Inspired by Beauty and the Beast, this elegant restaurant serves French and American cuisine in a setting fit for a fairy tale.
Animator’s Palate: Celebrate Disney animation in a restaurant filled with character artwork and interactive storytelling, paired with a menu featuring Asian, Pacific Islands, and California influences.
Rapunzel’s Royal Table: Step into the Kingdom of Corona for a lively celebration inspired by Tangled. Enjoy a festive meal with music, dancing, and appearances from familiar characters as Rapunzel’s story unfolds around you.
Each restaurant offers its own atmosphere, so dinner becomes part of the entertainment rather than just another meal.
Broadway-Caliber Entertainment
You won’t want to miss the live shows aboard the Disney Magic! The Walt Disney Theatre hosts several theatrical productions, including Tangled: The Musical, which follows Rapunzel’s journey with original songs and spectacular staging.
You can also enjoy Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story, which reimagines the classic fairy tale, and Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic, featuring beloved Disney characters and memorable music.
Beyond the theater, expect deck parties, character experiences, family-friendly activities, and first-run and classic Disney movies at the Buena Vista Theatre. Check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app once onboard for the schedule so you can plan around your must-see shows and activities.
Staterooms Designed With Families in Mind
Disney Magic staterooms are designed with families in mind, with thoughtful storage and split bathrooms in many accommodations to make getting ready easier. Depending on your budget and preferences, you can choose from inside staterooms, oceanview rooms with porthole windows, verandah staterooms with private outdoor space, and concierge accommodations.
An inside stateroom can be a great way to save money if you plan to spend most of your time exploring the ship. Oceanview rooms let you enjoy natural light and sea views, while a verandah gives you a private place to enjoy the ocean breeze. Concierge accommodations offer an elevated experience with additional amenities and personalized service.
The best choice depends on your family’s needs, budget, and how you like to spend your time at sea.
Elevated Dining & Adults-Only Escapes
The Disney Magic has plenty to offer adults looking for a quieter evening or a special night out. Palo, the adults-only specialty restaurant, serves Northern Italian-inspired cuisine in an elegant setting. Reservations are required, and an additional fee applies.
For drinks, music, and nightlife, adults can explore lounges such as Fathoms, Keys, Promenade Lounge, and O’Gills Pub. The ship also offers spa and salon services for guests who want to unwind during their vacation.
Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply hoping to enjoy a relaxed evening after the kids head to their clubs, the Disney Magic makes it easy to find a little time for yourself.
Dedicated Spaces for Kids, Tweens & Teens
Disney Cruise Line’s youth clubs are a major highlight for families, and the Disney Magic has dedicated spaces for different age groups.
Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab: Designed for younger cruisers, these spaces offer supervised activities, imaginative play, and Disney-themed fun.
Edge: Tweens ages 11–14 can enjoy games, karaoke, arts and crafts, themed activities, and opportunities to make new friends.
“it’s a small world” nursery!: Available for little cruisers ages 6 months to 3 years, this nursery offers supervised care for an additional fee.
Older teens also have opportunities to connect with other cruisers through age-appropriate activities. Families can check the current youth-club offerings and age requirements before sailing, then use the Navigator app to keep track of onboard activities.
A Ship That Makes Every Day Magical
The Disney Magic proves that you don’t need the newest or biggest ship in the fleet to have an incredible Disney Cruise Line vacation. Its classic design, imaginative dining, exciting waterslide, Broadway-style entertainment, and welcoming atmosphere make it a wonderful choice for families and Disney fans alike.
From the moment you step into the ship’s atrium to your final evening at sea, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to make memories together. And with a variety of itineraries throughout the year, the Disney Magic can be a great fit for many different kinds of cruise vacations.
Pro Tips to Make the Most of Your Voyage
Besides working with the trusted agents at People Mover Travel to plan your next Disney Cruise Line adventure, there are a few things to keep in mind when preparing to sail aboard the Disney Magic:
Download the Disney Cruise Line app and link your vacation reservation prior to sailing – This is critical for managing your cruise activities, booking Port Adventures (excursions), and keeping track of otherwise important details. Plus, you can take advantage of a fun, Disney-themed countdown as you prepare to set sail!
Prioritize bookable activities and Port Adventures for when your window opens – Disney Cruise Line opens activity and Port Adventure (shore excursion) bookings by Castaway Club status prior to sailing. Be sure to note when you’ll be able to make selections, so you have the best chances of getting to enjoy everything on your list. You will NOT be charged for anything until you experience the activity or excursion but note that your cruise vacation must be paid in full before you can book anything (even if your window opens prior to your balance due date).
Complete your online check-in as early as possible – Similarly, Disney Cruise Line opens online check-in prior to sailing based on Castaway Club status to manage the digital flow of information and assign port arrival times + boarding group numbers. Checking in as early as you’re able allows you to select earlier port arrival times and get your documents in order ahead of time, which makes embarkation day much easier. The earlier your port arrival time and lower your boarding group number, the sooner you can get on the ship and start having fun!
Purchase Disney Band+ for use onboard – Want to stay hands-free during your cruise? Consider purchasing a Disney Band+ for your sailing! It can be used to open your stateroom, charge for merchandise purchases or drink orders, and even unlock extra magical touches around the ship during shows and other experiences. You’ll still receive a Key To The World card for everyone once onboard, but using a Disney Band+ is an opportunity for some extra magic!
Consider a starboard-facing room to enjoy fireworks at sea from your stateroom – Consider booking a stateroom situated on the starboard side of the ship if you’d rather enjoy fireworks at sea from the comfort of your own verandah or porthole view. We always recommend this for clients traveling with young children who can’t quite stay up that late, have sensitivities to loud noises, etc. Plus, a starboard-facing room also gives you a stunning view of Castaway Cay for itineraries that stop there.
Include Travel Protection in your vacation package – Adding travel insurance to any vacation is something we stand by, and it’s especially important to consider if you’re going on a Disney Cruise. Things can happen, and Disney’s Travel Protection Plan offers comprehensive coverage if you run into issues like trip delays, lost luggage, or the need to cancel last-minute. Discuss your options with your travel agent!
Always arrive at your embarkation port a minimum of one day before sailing – Don’t push it when it comes to getting to your embarkation port on time. The Disney Dream sails from a variety of ports depending on the itinerary, so plan to arrive in town at least one day before you’re scheduled to set sail. This ensures that even if you run into flight or driving delays, you won’t miss the boat!
Decorate your stateroom door & join in some fun with your fellow cruisers – Show off your family’s personality with some magnetic door decorations! Not only is this a fun activity, but it makes for a great way to easily find your stateroom amongst the others in long corridors. You can also connect with other guests on your cruise prior to sailing by joining related Facebook and other social media groups to participate in gift exchanges and other activities (like sharing door magnets!). While none of this is required, these opportunities allow for additional ways to create your own magic and share it with others!
Don’t skip the muster drill – A must-do on day one of your cruise will be the mandatory safety drill, or muster drill. You’ll hear repeated announcements onboard about it, as well as receive notifications about it in the Disney Cruise Line app, and for good reason. This is an exercise that all guests must take part in before the ship can sail, and it allows you to visit your assembly station in the unlikely event of an emergency. It only takes a few minutes, and Cast Members will be looking for you to ensure you participate and check in with them to confirm.
Arrive early to shows in the Walt Disney Theater and parties up on deck – The Broadway-style shows aboard the Disney Wonder WILL be popular and the theater WILL fill up prior to showtime. Whether you’re going to the early or late show (depending on your rotational dining time), we recommend arriving at the theater at least 30 minutes beforehand to get a spot in line and enter as soon as the doors open. Same idea for parties up on deck; plan to look for spots for the Sail Away Party and other deck celebrations early to ensure you have a good view of the main stage and/or fireworks. As mentioned, fireworks are shot off from the starboard side of the ship, so take that into consideration when choosing your spot and look around for any view obstructions (looking at you, AquaDuck).
Consider making a placeholder reservation for your next cruise while onboard – Disney Cruise Line routinely offers a sweet deal to save money on a future cruise called their ‘Onboard Booking Offer.’ While still onboard your cruise, you can put down a flat $250/stateroom deposit to use towards another cruise within the following 24 months. You don’t even have to know exactly when you want to sail again yet! Additionally, the promo typically gets you 10% off your prevailing cruise fare once you pick a sailing, as well as a reduced deposit. While there are blackout dates and some stateroom restrictions, this is one the best ways to save money on a Disney Cruise Line vacation!
