Meet the Disney Dream
The Disney Dream was the ship that introduced an entirely new era of Disney Cruise Line when it debuted in 2011. As the first of Disney’s Dream Class ships, it brought together the classic elegance of an ocean liner with innovative Disney storytelling, incredible entertainment, family-friendly spaces, and one very famous attraction: the AquaDuck.
More than a decade later, the Disney Dream remains a favorite among Disney Cruise Line guests. While it shares many design elements with its sister ship, the Disney Fantasy, the Dream has its own personality and plenty of experiences that make it worth exploring. Whether you're planning your first Disney cruise or considering returning to a ship you already love, here's what you need to know about sailing aboard the Disney Dream!
Sun, Fun & the AquaDuck
One of the best places to spend a sea day aboard the Disney Dream is up on the pool decks. Families can enjoy Mickey's Pool, Donald's Pool, and the Funnel Puddle, while little ones have their own splash area at Nemo's Reef. Donald's Pool also features the massive Funnel Vision screen, where guests can watch Disney movies and other entertainment throughout the day.
And then there's the AquaDuck!
This three-story water coaster is one of the Dream's signature attractions and was the first elevated water coaster at sea. Riders climb aboard a raft and zoom through a translucent tube that twists, turns, rises above the ship, and even extends over the edge of the vessel before splashing back down. It's one of those experiences that you'll want to ride more than once!
For guests looking for something a little more competitive, Goofy's Sports Deck offers basketball, miniature golf, and virtual sports simulators. The Promenade Deck also features a 400-yard jogging track for those who want to stay active while enjoying ocean views. Adults have their own place to relax, too. The Quiet Cove Pool provides a peaceful adults-only retreat, while Satellite Falls offers another relaxing outdoor space. Cove Café is nearby for specialty coffee, pastries, and light bites.
Casual Dining & Quick Bites
You certainly won't go hungry aboard the Disney Dream. Cabanas is the ship's main casual buffet restaurant, offering breakfast and lunch with a huge variety of options. From Mickey waffles and kid-friendly favorites to salads, seafood, international dishes, and more, there's something for just about everyone.
The pool deck also makes grabbing a quick bite easy. Flo's Café offers casual favorites including burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and more, while nearby locations offer sweet treats and refreshing snacks.
And don't forget about the 24-hour room service! Sometimes there's nothing better than enjoying a snack in your stateroom while watching the ocean go by.
Enchanted Garden
Rotational Dining: Three Restaurants, Three Experiences
One of the things that makes Disney Cruise Line dining so special is rotational dining. Instead of eating at the same restaurant every night, guests rotate through three different dining venues while their serving team travels with them.
Royal Court brings Disney's classic princess stories to life with an elegant fairytale-inspired setting and French and American cuisine. Enchanted Garden transforms from a bright, garden-inspired restaurant into a more romantic evening setting. And Animator's Palate celebrates Disney animation with interactive storytelling and entertainment during select meals.
Each restaurant has its own atmosphere and menu, so even though your serving team remains the same, dinner feels different every night.
Broadway-Caliber Entertainment
Entertainment is a huge part of the Disney Dream experience, and the two-story Walt Disney Theatre is home to several Broadway-style productions. Depending on your sailing, you may have the opportunity to see Beauty and the Beast, Disney's Believe, or The Golden Mickeys. These productions combine impressive costumes, music, special effects, and beloved Disney characters to create the kind of theater experience you'd expect from Disney.
Beyond the main theater, guests can enjoy live music throughout the ship, character appearances, deck parties, first-run Disney movies at the Buena Vista Theatre, and movies under the stars on Funnel Vision. On most sailings, you'll also have the opportunity to experience fireworks at sea—a Disney Cruise Line tradition that makes for a pretty unforgettable night.
Staterooms Designed With Families in Mind
Disney Cruise Line's staterooms are designed with families at the center, and the Disney Dream is no exception. Most staterooms feature Disney's signature split-bathroom concept, making it much easier for families to get ready without everyone fighting over the bathroom.
You'll also find clever storage solutions, under-bed luggage storage, pull-down beds, and flexible sleeping arrangements. Stateroom categories range from Inside and Oceanview rooms to Verandah accommodations and Concierge suites. For guests looking for an extra-special experience, Concierge accommodations offer upgraded amenities, exclusive spaces, and additional services.
Elevated Dining & Adults-Only Escapes
The Disney Dream offers plenty for grown-ups who want a little time away from the kids. For an extra-special dinner, adults can reserve Palo, an elegant Northern Italian restaurant featuring elevated cuisine and beautiful ocean views. The Dream also features Remy, an upscale French-inspired dining experience for adults looking for a more luxurious evening. Between Palo and Remy, Meridian offers another sophisticated spot to enjoy a cocktail while taking in panoramic ocean views.
The Dream's adults-only nightlife is centered around The District, a collection of lounges and nightclubs. Guests can enjoy live piano music at District Lounge, sports at Pub 687, cocktails at Skyline, wine and champagne at Pink, and dancing at Evolution. For a quieter escape, Senses Spa & Salon offers treatments, a Rainforest Room, and a fitness center with ocean views.
Dedicated Spaces for Kids, Tweens & Teens
One of the biggest reasons families love Disney Cruise Line is that kids don't simply have a "kids' club"—they have immersive spaces designed specifically for their age group.
Children ages 3–10 can explore Disney's Oceaneer Club, which features interactive spaces inspired by Disney stories, including Andy's Room from Toy Story and a Star Wars-themed area featuring the Millennium Falcon.
Tweens ages 11–14 have Edge, while teens ages 14–17 can hang out at Vibe, giving older kids spaces where they can make friends, play games, and participate in activities without feeling like they're in a little-kid space.
For the youngest cruisers, the "it's a small world" nursery! provides care for children ages 6 months to 3 years for an additional fee. The ship also features Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, where young guests can enjoy magical makeovers.
A Ship That Makes Every Day Magical
The Disney Dream is a fantastic example of what Disney Cruise Line does best: creating a vacation where everyone can find something they love.
Kids can race down the AquaDuck, adults can enjoy a quiet afternoon at Satellite Falls, families can experience Broadway-style entertainment together, and everyone can come together for rotational dining and character experiences.
Whether you're looking for your first Disney cruise or deciding which ship to try next, the Disney Dream continues to be a fantastic choice for families, couples, and multigenerational groups.
Pro Tips to Make the Most of Your Voyage
Besides working with the trusted agents at People Mover Travel to plan your next Disney Cruise Line adventure, there are a few things to be mindful of if you’re planning to sail aboard the Disney Dream:
Download the Disney Cruise Line app and link your vacation reservation prior to sailing – This is critical for managing your cruise activities, booking Port Adventures (excursions), and keeping track of otherwise important details. Plus, you can take advantage of a fun, Disney-themed countdown as you prepare to set sail!
Prioritize bookable activities and Port Adventures for when your window opens – Disney Cruise Line opens activity and Port Adventure (shore excursion) bookings by Castaway Club status prior to sailing. Be sure to note when you’ll be able to make selections, so you have the best chances of getting to enjoy everything on your list. You will NOT be charged for anything until you experience the activity or excursion but note that your cruise vacation must be paid in full before you can book anything (even if your window opens prior to your balance due date).
Complete your online check-in as early as possible – Similarly, Disney Cruise Line opens online check-in prior to sailing based on Castaway Club status to manage the digital flow of information and assign port arrival times + boarding group numbers. Checking in as early as you’re able allows you to select earlier port arrival times and get your documents in order ahead of time, which makes embarkation day much easier. The earlier your port arrival time and lower your boarding group number, the sooner you can get on the ship and start having fun!
Purchase Disney Band+ for use onboard – Want to stay hands-free during your cruise? Consider purchasing a Disney Band+ for your sailing! It can be used to open your stateroom, charge for merchandise purchases or drink orders, and even unlock extra magical touches around the ship during shows and other experiences. You’ll still receive a Key To The World card for everyone once onboard, but using a Disney Band+ is an opportunity for some extra magic!
Consider a starboard-facing room to enjoy fireworks at sea from your stateroom – Consider booking a stateroom situated on the starboard side of the ship if you’d rather enjoy fireworks at sea from the comfort of your own verandah or porthole view. We always recommend this for clients traveling with young children who can’t quite stay up that late, have sensitivities to loud noises, etc. Plus, a starboard-facing room also gives you a stunning view of Castaway Cay for itineraries that stop there.
Include Travel Protection in your vacation package – Adding travel insurance to any vacation is something we stand by, and it’s especially important to consider if you’re going on a Disney Cruise. Things can happen, and Disney’s Travel Protection Plan offers comprehensive coverage if you run into issues like trip delays, lost luggage, or the need to cancel last-minute. Discuss your options with your travel agent!
Always arrive at your embarkation port a minimum of one day before sailing – Don’t push it when it comes to getting to your embarkation port on time. The Disney Dream sails from a variety of ports depending on the itinerary, so plan to arrive in town at least one day before you’re scheduled to set sail. This ensures that even if you run into flight or driving delays, you won’t miss the boat!
Decorate your stateroom door & join in some fun with your fellow cruisers – Show off your family’s personality with some magnetic door decorations! Not only is this a fun activity, but it makes for a great way to easily find your stateroom amongst the others in long corridors. You can also connect with other guests on your cruise prior to sailing by joining related Facebook and other social media groups to participate in gift exchanges and other activities (like sharing door magnets!). While none of this is required, these opportunities allow for additional ways to create your own magic and share it with others!
Don’t skip the muster drill – A must-do on day one of your cruise will be the mandatory safety drill, or muster drill. You’ll hear repeated announcements onboard about it, as well as receive notifications about it in the Disney Cruise Line app, and for good reason. This is an exercise that all guests must take part in before the ship can sail, and it allows you to visit your assembly station in the unlikely event of an emergency. It only takes a few minutes, and Cast Members will be looking for you to ensure you participate and check in with them to confirm.
Arrive early to shows in the Walt Disney Theater and parties up on deck – The Broadway-style shows aboard the Disney Dream WILL be popular and the theater WILL fill up prior to showtime. Whether you’re going to the early or late show (depending on your rotational dining time), we recommend arriving at the theater at least 30 minutes beforehand to get a spot in line and enter as soon as the doors open. Same idea for parties up on deck; plan to look for spots for the Sail Away Party and other deck celebrations early to ensure you have a good view of the main stage and/or fireworks. As mentioned, fireworks are shot off from the starboard side of the ship, so take that into consideration when choosing your spot and look around for any view obstructions (looking at you, AquaDuck).
Consider making a placeholder reservation for your next cruise while onboard – Disney Cruise Line routinely offers a sweet deal to save money on a future cruise called their ‘Onboard Booking Offer.’ While still onboard your cruise, you can put down a flat $250/stateroom deposit to use towards another cruise within the following 24 months. You don’t even have to know exactly when you want to sail again yet! Additionally, the promo typically gets you 10% off your prevailing cruise fare once you pick a sailing, as well as a reduced deposit. While there are blackout dates and some stateroom restrictions, this is one the best ways to save money on a Disney Cruise Line vacation!
